To gauge what the perfect weight would be to start with is do some reps. Pick the smallest of the weights and do a rep of 10. If you feel tired and you can’t lift anymore than that set is too heavy. If you feel like you could do more after 10, then those are just right.
Once you have found your perfect free weights, you should choose how many reps you’re going to do. A rep is how many times you do a certain exercise. Remember this isn’t a competition. Just do what you feel comfortable with without pushing yourself too hard. For most beginners, 10-12 reps each arm is a great place to start. However if this is too much for you, take it down to 6-8 reps. Once you begin strengthening your muscles, you can work your way up.
